Information for GPs on FIT for high risk patients

RM Partners has developed a new information video for GPs to remind them of the importance of dispensing a FIT test prior to making an urgent referral for suspected colorectal cancer.

As a result of Covid-19, a new colorectal cancer referral pathway for London has been developed. This was to ensure that the risk of clinical harm is reduced and that patients are seen and investigated based on clinical priority.

The main difference is that GPs are asked to ensure that a FIT test is done and the FIT value attached to the referral. The only exception to this is where a patient has an anal or rectal mass, when they should be referred immediately.

The video, presented by Mr Andy Ramwell, consultant colorectal surgeon at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, also illustrates the FIT kit to be used to ensure that an incorrect kit is not dispensed.
