Bowel screening reminder service a success

The RM Partners pilot to increase uptake bowel screening across south west London has proven incredibly successful. All six CCGs in the area took part, and by the end of October almost 4,000 additional screening kits were completed and returned.

Facilitators from Community Links worked with GP practices to identify those who have not taken up the invitation to participate in the national bowel screening project. The facilitators then called these patients, offering to explain how to use the kit, answer any questions they might have, and re-order kits if needed.

In Wandsworth, the first CCG to undertake the project, 100% of GP practices took part. This led to an estimated increase of 16% in screening uptake, which will assist with the aim of reaching the national target of 60%. Most of the other CCGs also had high levels of GP practice participation, with Sutton also having 100%.

The project now being rolled out to CCGs across north west London.
