Sharing learning about our RAPID prostate pathway

RM Partners held the first RAPID prostate pathway network meeting to share data, look at the similarities and differences of the three pilot pathways, and to celebrate the successes of the project so far.

More than 1,500 men have been referred through the RAPID pathway since its launch, with 15 days being the average waiting time for diagnosis after referral.

In addition to representatives from the pilots at Epsom and St Helier (Epsom Hospital), Imperial (Charing Cross Hospital) and St George’s (Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton), and national charity Prostate Cancer UK, clinicians from other Cancer Alliances attended to find out more about the project and how they might set up similar services in their area.

There was a presentation and demonstration on the RAPID online database that will collect data to be used for potential research. There was also a presentation on patient feedback, the majority of which was positive. Most patients were pleased with the speed of GP referral to hospital and the speed of diagnosis, but a few felt the wait time from MRI to biopsy could be improved.

A second network meeting is planned for the end of 2018.
