The Cancer Vanguard

In 2015, the NHS invited individual organisations and partnerships to apply to become ‘vanguard’ sites, as part of NHS England’s  New Care Models Programme set out in the NHS Five Year Forward View strategy.

Published in 2014, the Five Year Forward View sets out a new shared vision for the future of the NHS, based around new models of care which link local hospitals together to improve clinical and financial viability.

RM Partners applied to be the local delivery system across north west and south west London and, in September 2015, was successfully chosen along with University College London Hospitals for north central and east London, and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, to be part of the wider Cancer Vanguard.

The Cancer Vanguard is focused on delivering a new model of care that will drive improvements in clinical outcomes and patient experience across the entire patient journey. It will work to shift the focus towards prevention and early diagnosis, to provide a recovery package for those living with and beyond cancer, and to greatly improve care at the end of life.
